In 1987, the Niranga Academy was
established in Colombo at Ratmalana as a National dance school known as
"Niranga Kalayathanaya",
by the directress of the Academy Dr Ms. M.B.S. Niranjala Fernando.

Dr Niranjala was just 19 years old
when she opened her own arts studio ( Kalayathanaya)
at Ratmalana,, at that time she has completed all
local diploma" Dance' Exams up to finals.
In 1987, the Niranga Academy was
established in Colombo at Ratmalana as a National dance school known as
"Niranga Kalayathanaya",

Dr Niranjala was just 19 years old
when she opened her own arts studio ( Kalayathanaya)
at Ratmalana,, at that time she has completed all
local diploma" Dance' Exams up to finals.
At that time, the Academy has the
subjects of dancing, drama, singing and drumming and all of Sri Lankan cultural
fine arts subjects for children and teenagers.
Over the next few years, Dr Niranjala
hired professionals including the University lecturers for the subjects such as
drumming, to teacher in her Academy as the curriculum was expanded up to
professional levels.
During this time it's enrollment of the
students expanded 30 to 75
After few years Dr Niranjala continued
expansion which offered courses in local as well as foreign dance which has the
basic principles of cultural values and arts.
In 1990, the School was incorporated as
"Niranga Academy of Arts" to teach for adults (Ladies) as well.
In
year 2000, Niranga Academy of Arts added the subjects and programs of 'Health
and Fitness" to its offerings. This is to complete physical, mental, and
social well-being in order to ensure a society's economic success.
Niranga Academy of Arts has also conducted the
training programs for teachers, under the Government registration of the
Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka since year 2010

NAA Niranga Academy of Arts since year 2015 has psychological educational programs. Studying psychology equips students to use their knowledge of human behaviour in their daily lives.
